Last week (Monday 12 March) the Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council officially opened the new ₤ 5.6 m integrated transportation hub in Port Talbot.At the occasion, the Leader was signed up with by representatives from Neath Port Talbot Council, the Welsh Federal government, the Welsh European Financing Office and Andrew Scott Ltd.The new Transport Center centralises primary transport links including Port Talbot Parkway station, a brand-new bus terminal, cycle facilities, a taxi rank and drop-off and pick-up bays in a mostly pedestrianised concourse, supplying much easier gain access to for all to employment and suburbs around the town. The Transportation Center matches the ₤ 11.3 m redevelopment of Port Talbot Parkway Train Station by Network Rail in 2016 and forms part of the Council's wider Regrowth Programme.The scheme has been funded by the Local Transport Fund, Vibrant & Viable Places funding and the European Regional Development Fund, through the Welsh Government.The Transportation Center is an additional and complementary provision to Port Talbot Bus Station, where typical services will continue.Commissioning of the Transport Center is continuing and Taxi Services will be included shortly. "The increased access to active travel alongside the improved public transport system will all contribute towards decreasing journey times and increasing accessibility to work, which will in turn feed into the regeneration and revitalisation of the area."Mark Bowen
