Gutted Notts County boss Neal Ardley believes his players who tested positive for Covid-19 caught the virus from an opposition team. Six Magpies have tested positive, prompting the club to pull out of the FA Cup, with scheduled first round opponents King’s Lynn receiving a bye to the second round. The upcoming National League games at Halifax and Aldershot have been postponed, with County not due to return to action until the home clash with Stockport County on November 11. Speaking to the media about the situation morning, Ardley, who revealed he had the contracted the illness him in March, said: “I’m gutted. The FA Cup means a lot to me and I wanted to put a run together. “I’m gutted that this virus has infiltrated our bubble and managed to get itself in there. We’ve been meticulous on everything we’ve done. “The mood is pretty sombre. We’re not happy with where we are, but we can take comfort from the fact we’re definitely doing the right things.” Notts have regularly tested their players for the virus since the start of the season, but testing isn’t mandatory, which Ardley believes must change. “We tested right at the start of the season and we were all negative,” added Ardley. “I’m not going to put blame on anyone but I’m 90 per cent sure it’s infiltrated our group through an opposition in a game because someone who tested positive from an opposition was marking our first player to get it. Then it’s managed to spread around our squad. “Look at any walk of life. You guys in the press are doing everything remotely. If you go into an office, you wear masks, you’ve got sanitizers, you’re socially distanced. “We do all of that around the place. We’re on the ball, but the moment football players walk onto a pitch – if there’s no testing in place and it’s not mandatory – they’re going into the unknown. They’re lambs to the slaughter.” On the health of the players who have tested positive, Ardley added: “It’s a bit of a mixed bag. Some who had it a little while now are coming through the back end of it. Some feel a bit rough still, others are asymptomatic. “If I got back to March time, I actually had it. I’ve had the test to show I had it. I didn’t have all the classic symptoms, but I did have some symptoms that I couldn’t explain at the time. They lasted for a couple of months. “So my concern is not just for now, it’s for the next couple of months and how the players, who are elite athletes, get over it.” from https://taxi.nearme.host/lambs-to-the-slaughter-neal-ardley-believes-notts-county-players-caught-covid-19-from-opposition-team-nottinghamshire-live/
