Neal Ardley says he still remains in the dark as to whether Notts County’s season will go ahead as planned after admitting the National League’s latest statement on the crisis “didn’t say anything”. The Magpies are due to begin their campaign at Dover on October 3, but those plans are still up in the air amid fears the campaign could still face a delay. This week it emerged some clubs do no want to start the season until fans are allowed back inside stadiums, but that prospect looks unlikely for the next six months amid a second spike in coronavirus cases. That has thrown the build-up to the season into chaos and the only way the season will go ahead is if the government provide financial aid to ensure clubs can survive playing behind closed doors. The League said in a statement on Thursday they are hoping to receive assistance from the government, but it did not clarify if the season will start as planned. Magpies boss Ardley said: “The statement is about all I know. “I am not even sure what the statement is supposed to be saying as it doesn’t say anything really. “We are going into the final week of pre-season with absolutely no clue whatsoever as to whether the season will start. “I find that incredible, but that’s where we are. I read the statement and can’t really work it out – it doesn’t say anything. “We’ll wait and see what happens with the government offering some kind of support as a base going forward. “I guess it’s watch this space.” Ardley made his feelings clear during a meeting with other managers on Monday, but said he was the only one to raise concerns. And he still remains adamant that there is a way to start the season as planned with talks continuing about streaming services for supporters that will allow them to pay to watch games via the Internet. “We had a managers’ meeting on Monday and spent one hour and 20 minutes on the handball rule and 10 on any other business,” he said. “That’s what the meeting was about. “I was the only one who spoke up at the end and asked questions as to what plan B was when I was told the league wouldn’t be going ahead without fans. “I asked questions about the five subs rule at a time when players haven’t played for months. “Injuries are likely and given the schedules we have, why have we only got five subs? “I got no real response to that either. “I don’t know what other managers and clubs are thinking. “I get the financial difficulties of having no supporters, but if the alternative was let’s wait a week or two and this will get sorted then I’d be willing to do that. “But that’s not the alternative. The alternative is you don’t play any football and you will be the only two steps that don’t. “That’s why I am adamant we have to find a way.” from https://taxi.nearme.host/incredible-notts-county-boss-neal-ardley-left-perplexed-by-national-league-nottinghamshire-live/
