Council workers are to park refuse lorries along the route of a funeral cortege to pay tribute to much-loved colleague tomorrow. Andy Tipton paid tribute to 53-year-old father-of-three-Lee, who died earlier this month from cancer. “Lee was just a great bloke, one in a million,” he said. “In and out of work he would do anything for anyone and often did. “He was a laugh a minute and had a heart of gold. “We are all devastated at losing him. Everyone loved him.” Andy, from Blaby , told how Lee, from Ratby, was first to spot a person who needed help while they were out on their rounds. Andy crewed with Lee for six years as they did a refuse collection round covering Blaby, Countesthorpe, Kirby Muxloe, Braunstone, Cosby , Glenfield, Sapcote and Enderby. “I remember one day in Sapcote, Lee spotted that an elderly woman seemed to be lying on the floor in front of her glass door. “Lee leapt out and went across. It turned out she had fallen and could not get up. “We got in. Lee took his coat off and wrapped it around her as he waited until a neighbour got her settled and called the doctor. “Another day in Kirby Muxloe, Lee saw that man in the street looked agitated. He was late for work as his battery was flat so his car would not start. “Lee, myself and Simon Wright, the other loader on our crew, stopped and pushed the car to give him a bump start. It felt good. “Lee often used his break to have a cuppa and a natter with elderly residents on the round. They loved him. “I know the residents will step up and put the bins out so we can all pay our respects to Lee. “Our heartfelt sympathies go out to wife and children and all his family.” A Blaby District Council spokesman sad: “Lee worked on different waste areas, as all drivers do when they first start at BDC but predominantly on refuse collection for the last couple of years,” said a council spokesman. “As we do a fortnightly collection service Lee and his crew covered a vast majority of the district over each two week period, touching nearly every village. “Lee’s funeral is on Friday September 11 at Countesthorpe Crematorium, Foston Road, Countesthorpe, at 12pm. “Our staff will be parking up just off Foston Road on Rosebank Road/Hazelbank Road and standing along Rosebank and Foston Roads to show their appreciation and respect for Lee and his family.” from https://taxi.nearme.host/binman-colleague-pays-tribute-to-refuse-lorry-driver-with-heart-of-gold-leicestershire-live/
