“Exciting times” have been promised for residents across Mansfield and Ashfield after both areas secured millions of pounds in town centre investment. The Government has confirmed that both councils can move forward with plans to revitalise their areas in schemes worth as much as £25 million each per town. It comes around 12 months after the areas were announced as contenders for the Future High Streets and Towns Funds, with Mansfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield receiving up to £50 million each. Kirkby-in-Ashfield could be set to receive a further £25 million investment as part of the Towns Fund, while Mansfield has also been successful in a separate £1 million scheme. Now the Government has revealed that Ashfield District Council will receive £1.5 million – spread evenly across its two towns – to put together plans for the Towns Fund investment. As part of its proposals, the council says it has worked with the Discover Ashfield board and consulted more than 1,300 residents on how to improve their areas. It has outlined plans to create jobs, leisure facilities, “great places to visit”, off-road cycling and walking routes between the towns, and improved educational opportunities. Councillor Matthew Relf, portfolio holder for place, planning and regeneration on the council, said: “There are exciting times ahead for Ashfield. “We are ambitious in our plans for the area and we are working closely with residents and our partners to ensure the towns not only recover from the years of neglect but also the challenges brought by the pandemic. “The investment will support the towns to create a wider offer for leisure, community, housing, healthcare and education, as well as increased cultural opportunities, helping to create thriving towns that people want to visit.” Lee Anderson, Ashfield’s MP, added: “£1.5 million is coming our way which will go towards the re-purposing of high street shops, a new play area, a cycle route from Kirkby to Sutton and the purchase of land for mixed use and cash for Portland Training College. “This is just the start and is part of the Towns Fund Deal worth up to £50 million.” Mansfield District Council has also been successful in its ‘pocket parks’ bid, which will bring £1 million into the town. As part of the scheme, soft play facilities will be introduced within the town centre as well as improved street lights, bicycle storage and wall and art installations. The bid was welcomed by residents when it was announced last month, who also called for alfresco dining in the town centre and the repurposing of Market Place. Councillor Stuart Richardson, portfolio holder for regeneration and growth on Mansfield District Council, welcomed the funding. He said: “This scheme supports a council priority to improve the green environment in the district. “Bringing more, much needed greenery to our town centre can only be a good thing – and this will not cost local council tax payers anything. “Mansfield is on the cusp of some major investment which will help place this district in the best possible place to face the changes and challenges of future years.” Ben Bradley, Mansfield’s MP, added: “I’ve taken every opportunity possible to ensure Mansfield remains at the top of the list when it comes to funding for our town, and the hard work has clearly paid off as we’ll be getting an extra £1 million. “It’ll be fantastic to use this £1 million to kickstart projects, to get things moving straight away, ahead of the £50 million worth of changes to our town centre over the next few years.” Both district councils must outline plans to spend the funding before the end of the financial year in 2021. from https://taxi.nearme.host/exciting-times-promised-after-mansfield-and-ashfield-secure-more-town-centre-funding-nottinghamshire-live/

Paul Sanderson is 64 and a retired transportation employee, who has actually lived in Mansfield since he was a kid. He stated: “I retired from the buses and ended up getting one myself. It used to be in the town’s market.”I went on the bus myself as a child in the late 1950s and early 1960s and now I have actually owned it for about four years.”I keep in mind riding them, my other half does, therefore our children did too in the 1980s so it’s a piece of nostalgia for us. I utilized to have the orange tractor off the roundabout too but I brought back and sold that.”Individuals would mark time for rather a long period of time to use the flight and individuals would put their kids on it and get some peas and cockles while we went round. It was something to do on a Saturday.”A bus, tractor, aeroplane and 2 motorcycle rides comprised the cars on the kids’s roundabout. Jane Sanderson, 65, a retired health worker, included:”I remember riding it when I was about four in 1959. It was a treat when you good while out shopping to go there.”It utilized to cost 4 cents in old money so 4d.”I was truly eager to get the bus for my partner’s 60th birthday since it ‘s so well remembered and I knew he ‘d like it. “Memories surrounding Froggatt’s roundabout in Mansfield are still often shared in social media groups committed to Mansfield’s past. David Winn, a 54-year-old previous showman from Pleasley , utilized to work on erecting the roundabout ride in Mansfield town centre up till the 1980s. He had a few of the children’s vehicles in his possession before offering them to Victoria Antiques in the town-where the Sanderson’s bought it from. David stated:” I’ve still got the primary structure and steel works since it’s old English steel which is excellent. I got flight of all the toy buses and tractors though.”They’re too tall to still use today since a kid might fall out the top. It’s a lot harder to insure these flights nowadays.” I believe they were made before the First World War due to the fact that they are made from Oak wood and afterwards there was a lack nationally.”I’m aiming to construct a brand-new ride that might enter into the town using the base and structure from the Froggatt roundabout. “ from https://taxi.nearme.host/couple-describe-why-they-bought-a-childrens-roundabout-trip-for-their-home-nottinghamshire-live/ Have the top stories straight to your inbox for free – once a day, every day
