Lewis Knight is used to serving up coffee as a barista at a motorway service station – but now hopes to be piping hot in front of goal at Notts County. The former Leeds United youngster sealed his return to the full-time game on Monday after the Magpies paid a nominal fee to Bradford Park Avenue for his signature. Notts beat several EFL clubs in order to land the forward who scored nine goals in 14 games in the National League North before the season was ended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Speaking for the first time since his arrival, Knight is relishing being back in professional football having had a part-time job working for Starbucks at Hartshead Moor services on the M62. “It’s very exciting,” he said. “It’s like a dream really because if there’s any club in the National League you want to sign for it is Notts County. “They are definitely the biggest and they are also the oldest professional football club in the world. “It’s not every day you get that phone call. “I’ve been working at Hartshead Moor for Starbucks for two or three years when I was expecting certain things to happen but it didn’t. “I’ve not told them I’ve signed yet so I am going to have to do that in the next week or so. They’ll probably see the press conference first though!” Magpies boss Neal Ardley said he was pleased to land Knight who had been monitored by several Football League clubs before they made their move late last week. The last signing from the National League North worked out well as Notts raided Blyth Spartans for Callum Roberts who is considered as one of the hottest prospects outside the EFL. And Ardley believes Knight’s pace will add a different dimension to their attack but stressed he would take time before Notts fans were given their first glimpse of the forward. “As you saw with Cal Roberts last season, we’re always looking for young, hungry players who have something about them,” he said. “We’ve watched Lewis for a while. Our scouts flagged him up at first and we got some more feedback from people who we know, and they told us that this boy had a real chance of going places. “He’s lightning quick and likes to run in behind. He’s got the ability to leave people for dead, and I like to have that among our forward players. We need people who can create things when teams sit in on us. “Lewis is a good finisher and he’s developed his game so that he’s better with his back to goal. “He’s raw still – he needs coaching but he has a desire and hunger to improve, which we like. “He’s had a few weeks off because Bradford’s season ended, so we need to get him fit and up to speed, but there’s no reason why he can’t start by having an impact off the bench and, if he earns the right, he could go on to play a big part this season.” from https://taxi.nearme.host/starbucks-lewis-knight-makes-brilliant-notts-county-transfer-admission-nottinghamshire-live/
